How to Choose

A Complete TV Wall Mount Buying Guide

Hanging the TV on the wall is always a clever decor idea - it saves up spaces, gives a better watching experience, and different from a heavy piece of furniture, a TV mounting pack is more cost-effective than a TV table.

The only challenge is choosing a TV wall mount - there are thousands of models, sizes and prices. In this blog, we will answer these questions and make a clear guide to buying a TV wall mount.

This is the top 4 questions you have to consider in purchasing a TV wall mount:

  1. What kind of wall you are going to mount the TV on?
  2. What specs your TV is?
  3. What watching experience you are going to have (How flexible the TV mount will be)?
  4. How much I should pay for a TV wall mount?

 1. What wall you are going to mount TV with?

There are always 2 places people install the TV with: the concrete wall or wooden frames (studs). In most western countries like America or Canada, people usually mount the TV on the wood studs that underneath the drywall. Depending on different wall types, manufacturers prepare different hardware accessories. Therefore, when choosing a TV mount for studs, it is better to read through the description and make sure it supports “single stud installation” or “suits studs spacing”.

With a lightweight TV screen, a single stud mount, like Mounting Dream MD2413-MX, is one of the best choices. If you have a larger screen and prefer a heavy-duty one, go for longwall plate ones, such as Mounting Dream MD2268-LK. It designs for easy TV centering, fits 16", 18", 24" studs and the loading capacity is 132 lbs.

 2. What specs your TV is?

First of all, make sure both the size and weight of your screen fit the TV wall mount, which is usually shows in the title if you are viewing them in online shops. The next steps are to measure the VESA and checkout the potential cable blockage.

Where can I find the VESA size?

You can refer to the specifications in the TV manual but the fastest way is just manually measuring it. Locating the four holes in the back of your television, you just need to measure these from left to right and top to bottom. (oneforall.com, the VESA Mounting Standard Explained, 2019)

Please avoid cables blockage. We highly suggest contacting the customer service before purchasing if you are not sure about the cable blockage. If you get a mount that unfortunately blocks the cables, try to use the spacers to create a little bit of space for them. If it doesn’t work, please find help from the manufacturer, the most effective solution is to exchange your wall mount set.

3. How flexible your TV wants to be?

Now you made clear of your wall type, keep the TV mode, VESA in mind and avoid cable blockage. The final step matters to your watching experience. There are 3 types of TV wall mount: low profile TV wall mount (fixed on the wall), tilting wall mount, and full motion TV wall mount (able to tilt, swivel, rotation and extend).

For most of the host, whose key requirement is to hang up the TV and saves spaces, a low profile TV mount works well. It is easy to install, settles the TV properly and it barely needs any maintenance. However, in recent 5 years, according to the Sales Report 2014-2018 from Mounting Dream, the tilting and full-motion TV mounts are becoming the stars. Indeed, they are more flexible, meet the need on different occasions and friendly to home cinemas.

4. How much does a TV mount cost?

Now you know basic rules in choosing a TV wall mount. Generally, the more flexible the mount is, the more it costs. And usually, an online store is much cheaper than shops or hypermarkets. A low profile one costs around $20 online; a tilting TV wall mount costs around $27 and based on amazon USA, the full-motion TV bracket is not expensive at all - you can have it with a budget around $45. The price may vary according to the tilting angle, material, fit sizes and more. One of the top sellers of Mounting Dream, the full-motion model MD2380 costs less than $50, which fits for most 32-55 inch flat screen TVs. Dear support,

I would like to know if the MD2380-CA will work with the TV below?

https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/tcl-6-series-65-4k-uhd-hdr-qled-roku-os-smart-tv-65r635-ca/14671246

The TV is 65 inch and does not need the 600mm x 400mm and extra weight capacity since it is 300mm x 300mm and weighs only 29kg.

Is there any other reason that makes me require the MD2617-CA which is 65 inch rated?

Thank you
